Texas Center for Proton Therapy

New 63,000 SF proton therapy facility for McKesson Specialty Health, in collaboration with Texas Oncology and the US Oncology Network. The center consists of a 230 MeV rated fixed energy isochronous cyclotron unit, supporting two isocentric gantry treatment rooms and one fixed beam treatment room. Other building programs include clinical, laboratory, concierge, children’s activities room, wellness center, and a community center.  The LEED energy-cost savings is 17%, which is exemplary given that the equipment loads represent 65% of the total building energy cost.  With the baseline equipment energy consumption removed from the calculation, the building achieves an energy savings of 32%.  The two most impactful energy conservation measures are: premium efficiency chillers with magnetic bearings for the proton equipment cooling and 98% efficient flywheel energy storage for critical proton equipment back-up power. TCPT is the first stand-alone LEED Certified proton therapy center in the US. Treating patients since 05.2016.
