Technology is my niche; I have been intrigued by Technology since I was a little girl, I love everything about it and how it is always evolving into something better! I have studied Technology, I have taught Technology, and I live Technology every day!

Tell us about yourself.

I am a Senior Technology Systems Designer at BR+A Consulting Engineers. I am also a Wife of 17 years, a Mother of two Wonderful Children, and a Dog Mom to Seven Beautiful Fur-Babies! I hold a Master’s Degree in Information Systems (IT Strategy and Governance), a Bachelor’s Degree in Information System Security, and an Associate’s Degree in IT Network Administration. I obtained my Professional Certification of RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) back in 2014 and have been designing ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Systems ever since.

What does your typical day look like?

Most days I spend meeting with clients, vendors and/or design partners to further the ICT designs for our many projects. I mentor two Amazing individuals within the St. Louis Technology department and therefore spend at least some of my day providing guidance and direction to ensure all designs meet the client’s expectations and exceed code minimums. In addition, I sit on several of the BR+A committees (Marketing & BIM Protocols Committee) to assist the company with furthering internal standards so we ALL as a company can all put our best foot forward.

What brought you to BR+A?

I was working for a Contractor managing ICT Installation projects when BR+A approached me about working for their company; spending most of my professional career either in a sales or project management role I felt this was my golden opportunity to do more for my clients. Being in a formal Engineering/Design/Consulting role I can really listen to the client’s wants/needs and start defining those early within our design/construction documents – before the contractors even get involved!

What’s your superpower?

I believe my “superpower” is the ability to actively listen. Active listening builds trust and strong relationships, helps to resolve conflict, enables the identification or anticipation of concerns, helps to build personal knowledge, and prevents one from missing important information. By listening actively, I gain an understating of what will be beneficial for each client/project, which then expands my perspective and empowers me to do more!

Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t know from reading your resume.

We have our own little Family Zoo! In addition to my seven beautiful fur-babies (Dogs), our family houses two cats, two bunnies, and fifteen fish; we also have the pleasure of living on 13 acres with all kinds of wildlife right in our own back yard – we even have a family of Eagles that visit every spring to eat fish from our lake!

Has there been a person in your career who has really made a difference?

Craig Webster. He is one of the smartest and most remarkable individuals I have ever worked with. He is kind and considerate and willing to drop everything on his plate to help me as well as any others that may need his help here in the St. Louis office.

What has been the most challenging project you’ve been involved with recently?

One of the most challenging campuses I have worked on would be St. Louis Children’s with their many Renovations – conducting renovations in an existing hospital that must stay operational 24 hours a day can be not only a phasing challenge but an operational challenge for the hospital and their staff and visitors, the design team, and the contractors.

What makes a great engineer?

Caring. A Great Engineer Must Care about their system designs, listen to the Client’s needs/wants and really care about the outcome of a design/project.

What’s your niche?

Technology is my niche; I have been intrigued by Technology since I was a little girl, I love everything about it and how it is always evolving into something better! I have studied Technology, I have taught Technology, and I live Technology every day!

If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be?

If I was not an engineer, I would be a flower gardener; Flowers are my passion, I am always playing around in my yard and planting new flowers to brighten up every day!

What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

Awareness is Key! The ability to perceive and be conscious of oneself’ s abilities and knowledge while also paying attention to your surroundings and other’s abilities and knowledge is important on every project.
