BR+A is seeking applicants for a Building Scientist position in our Boston headquarters. The Building Scientist will be responsible for providing design guidance for energy optimization of building envelopes. The candidate must have professional experience and technical knowledge of the practical application of building envelope systems. The ability to provide holistic guidance is paramount, including accounting for constructability, relative construction cost, and installed performance. Experience with building envelope commissioning is preferred. Experience with Passive House and Zero Net Energy buildings is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural drawings and specifications, and coordinate with other consultants to recommend opportunities for increased efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and system optimization;
  • Perform detailed thermal analysis using HEAT3, THERM and other industry standard software;
  • Author Excel-based envelope tools for streamlined analysis in early design phases;
  • Collaborate with energy modeling staff to ensure accurate accounting of envelope systems;
  • Perform whole building energy modeling, using eQuest, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper and Ladybug tools.

Position Requirements:

  • BS in relevant field of Engineering or Architecture; MS preferred;
  • PE or RA preferred with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in envelope consulting, envelope commissioning, or directly related field;
  • Technical expertise in building envelope design, analysis and construction;
  • Proficient with envelope thermal modeling software;
  • Experience with whole building energy modeling software preferred;

BR+A is seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineer position in our Boston headquarters. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have a strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and would have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP;
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas;
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases;
  • Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements;
  • Develop air and water flows;
  • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application;
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system;
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application;  
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details;
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals;
  • Understand work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan;
  • Understand the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and deliver appropriate documentation;
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems;
  • Understand both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applies equipment;
  • Meets with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details;
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE License;
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education or Laboratory projects;

BR+A is seeking applicants for a Marketing Coordinator position in our New York office. The Marketing Coordinator will provide marketing support as needed and provide writing and layout support for all proposals, interviews, graphic displays, and slide presentations. Candidates need a technical understanding of the proposal production process in a service environment. This position’s duties include:

  • Write and maintain project profiles, team resumes, and client references, for all current and past projects to be used in proposals;
  • Maintain client database and perform correspondence duties as needed;
  • Maintain accurate, current database(s) for marketing mailings;
  • Coordinate displays for industry trade shows;
  • Support maintenance of company brand standards and quality control procedures;
  • Participate in professional organizations, as appropriate;
  • Assist with email blasts;
  • Prepare interview and presentation materials using Powerpoint and InDesign.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications or Marketing;
  • 5+ years of experience in the A/E/C industry;
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written;
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with the Adobe CS suite (especially InDesign);

BR+A is seeking a Construction Administration Engineer with hands-on field experience in design, operation, and construction of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and DDC control systems.

This position is to support the Particle Proton Therapy design practice based in the New York City office. The Proton Therapy projects are located in both the continental United States and International locations. Multi-day travel will be required to project sites to attend owners meetings, create observation reports, document construction progress, meet with MEP sub-contractors, etc. Candidates must have flexibility in their schedules to allow for weekly/monthly travel to project sites and the ability to fully utilize technology to work remotely from these sites. This is a full-time position.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks, be highly organized, have excellent writing skills, demonstrate proficient computer skills, and have a professional and team-oriented demeanor. The applicant must possess:

  • Functional working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems, as well as systems design & construction processes.
  • The ability to work directly with Architects/Owners/Construction Manager Representatives in a hands-on training role for the functional understanding of systems.
  • Prior experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system integration, TAB disciplines a plus;
  • BS in either of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience.

Job Description:

  • Provides mechanical engineering, design work and drafting of plans;
  • Implements approved system concepts from a schematic diagram to floor plans;
  • Sketches rough layouts to review with project engineer or Project Manager;
  • Reviews product cut sheets and technical information;
  • Communicates with Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems;
  • Meets with vendors to determine spatial requirements for application of the product;
  • Coordinates with other disciplines and the architect;
  • Attends meetings as required, works to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestones;
  • Attends in-house coordination meetings when appropriate;
  • Develops strategy to meet project schedule;
  • Assists in development of mechanical engineering systems concepts (M/E);
  • Assists design teams on major design issues;
  • Responsible for organizing required technical correspondence, emails and calculations; and
  • Performs field work and verification of existing conditions.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related field plus coursework in thermodynamics and heat transfer, and in lieu of coursework, two months of training (including internships) or experience in applying concepts of thermodynamics and heat transfer.

Travel:   Local travel once a month to once a week.

Hours:  40/week, flexible hours but must at least work from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

Location:  105 Madison Ave, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10016    Remote work permitted 1.5 days per week within the metropolitan statistic area (MSA)
