BR+A is seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineer position in our Boston headquarters. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have a strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and would have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP;
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas;
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases;
  • Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements;
  • Develop air and water flows;
  • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application;
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system;
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.  
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details;
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals;
  • Understand work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan;
  • Understand the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and deliver appropriate documentation;
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems;
  • Understand both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applies equipment;
  • Meets with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details;
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE License;
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education or Laboratory projects;

BR+A is seeking applicants for a Plumbing Engineer position in our Chicago Office. The ideal candidate would have the following skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the design of Plumbing and Fire Protection for Healthcare and Research projects;
  • Proficient in Auto CAD MEP and Revit;
  • Experience in specification writing;
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects;
  • Coordinates with other disciplines;
  • Develops calculations for Plumbing/FP system sizing; 
  • Thorough knowledge of Illinois plumbing code, model codes and NFPA;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Strongly motivated, well organized, shows professional initiative;
  • Takes ownership of assignments, work both independently and as part of the
    project team;
  • Capable of meeting and working with clients and owners.

Our Charlotte office is seeking an Administrative Assistant. We are looking for a candidate that is articulate, organized and trustworthy. The candidate should also be proactive, multitasking, can perform under pressure and have good time management skills. The ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic, energetic, hardworking individual with great telephone etiquette. 

Job Duties:

  • Must have experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe/blue beam, preferred experience with Deltek Vision Software;
  • Previous experience in a Design or Construction firm is a plus;
  • Complete Word processing including but not limited to letters, meeting notes, memorandums, fee proposals and specifications;
  • Additional Duties will include ordering supplies, filing, copying/printing, travel arrangements and support for all office employees, distributing information within the office, and tracking other staff member work flows;
  • Front Desk reception, greeting visitors and answering the phone.
