BR+A is seeking applicants for Drafting positions in our Boston headquarters. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Produce drawings, using computer-assisted drafting systems (CAD) or drafting machines;
  • Coordinate structural, electrical, and mechanical designs and determine a method of presentation to graphically represent building plans;
  • Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data to ensure that they conform to design concepts;
  • Understand the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and deliver appropriate documentation.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Experience with REVIT or AutoCAD;

Washington (Vienna, VA)

BR+A is seeking a Construction Administration Designer with hands-on field experience in design, operation, and construction of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and DDC control systems. This position is for our Vienna, VA office.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks, be highly organized, have excellent writing skills, demonstrate proficient computer skills, and have a professional and team-oriented demeanor. The applicant must possess:

  • Functional working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems, as well as systems design & construction processes;
  • The ability to work directly with Architects/Owners/Construction Manager Representatives in a hands-on training role for the functional understanding of systems;
  • Prior experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system integration, TAB disciplines a plus;
  • BS in either of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing Engineering.

BR+A is seeking applicants for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Vienna, VA office. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team.

 

The ideal candidate would have a strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and would have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP;
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas;
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases;
  • Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements;
  • Develop air and water flows;
  • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application;
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system;
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details;
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals;
  • Understand work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan;
  • Understand the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and deliver appropriate documentation;
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems;
  • Understand both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applies equipment;
  • Meets with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details;
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • PE License;
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Higher Education, or Laboratory projects;
  • Excellent Organizational and Communication skills;
  • Proactive and Collaborative team member.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide Engineering, Design work and drafting of plans;
  • Implement approved system concepts from a schematic diagram to floor plans;
  • Sketch rough layouts to review with Project Engineer or Project Manager;
  • Review product cut sheets and technical information;
  • Communicate with Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems;
  • Meet with vendors to determine spatial requirements for the application of the product;
  • Attend meetings as required;
  • Work to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestones;
  • Attend in-house coordination meetings when appropriate;
  • Develop a strategy to meet the projects’ schedule;
  • Assist in the development of engineering systems concepts (M/E);
  • Assist the design team on major design issues;
  • Responsible for organizing required technical correspondence, emails, and calculations;
  • Perform fieldwork and verification of existing conditions;
  • Revit and AutoCAD proficiency is a requirement.

  • EIT required;
  • PE License preferred;
  • 10 - 15 years of related experience.
